If you\u2019re on Plan G and just starting out, keep in mind you\u2019ll need to pay the first $283 out of pocket before your coverage begins. Each supplement plan is a little different: Plans K and L cover only part of cost-sharing, while Plan N may include additional copays for office or ER visits. It\u2019s important to remember that your supplement can only help after Medicare approves a service, so things like routine dental, vision, hearing, massage, and long-term custodial care may still be your responsibility. Prescription costs are handled separately through your Part D plan, each with its own rules around formularies, deductibles, copays, and networks\u2014even when your doctor visits are covered. I always encourage my members to compare their provider bill, Medicare summary notice, and supplement benefits statement before paying, to be sure they\u2019re only paying for approved services and that no errors have crept in.
