Why Medicare Supplement Bills Still Appear

Every year, I hear from members surprised by bills for their Medicare Supplement—especially when it comes to the 2026 Part B deductible. If you’re on Plan G and just starting out, keep in mind you’ll need to pay the first $283 out of pocket before your coverage begins. Each supplement plan is a little different: Plans K and L cover only part of cost-sharing, while Plan N may include additional copays for office or ER visits. It’s important to remember that your supplement can only help after Medicare approves a service, so things like routine dental, vision, hearing, massage, and long-term custodial care may still be your responsibility. Prescription costs are handled separately through your Part D plan, each with its own rules around formularies, deductibles, copays, and networks—even when your doctor visits are covered. I always encourage my members to compare their provider bill, Medicare summary notice, and supplement benefits statement before paying, to be sure they’re only paying for approved services and that no errors have crept in. My goal is to help you navigate these details so you can focus on your well-being, not paperwork.
